Abstracts and compressed postscript files are available via Real-time, multi-tasking software, such as that used in embedded control systems, is notoriously difficult to develop and maintain. Scheduling theory offers a mathematically-sound way of predicting the timing behaviour of sets of communicating, concurrent tasks, but its principles are often unfamiliar to practising programmers. Here we survey the basic concepts of contemporary schedulability analysis, including preemptive and non-preemptive scheduling policies, shared resource locking protocols, and current directions in multi-processor scheduling theory.

A fuzzy mixed-integer goal programming model for a parallel machine scheduling problem with sequence-dependent setup times and release dates
This paper presents a new mixed-integer goal programming (MIGP) model for a parallel machine scheduling problem with sequence-dependent setup times and release dates. Two objectives are considered in the model to minimize the total weighted flow time and the total weighted tardiness simultaneously. Due to the com-plexity of the above model and uncertainty involved in real-world scheduling probl...
متن کاملScheduling and Stochastic Capacity Estimation of an EV Charging Station with PV Rooftop Using Queuing Theory and Random Forest
Power capacity of EV charging stations could be increased by installing PV arrays on their rooftops. In these charging stations, power transmission can be two-sided when needed. In this paper a new method based on queuing theory and random forest algorithm proposed to calculate net power of charging station considering random SOC of EV’s. Due to estimation time constraints, a queuing model with...
متن کاملReal-time Scheduling of a Flexible Manufacturing System using a Two-phase Machine Learning Algorithm
The static and analytic scheduling approach is very difficult to follow and is not always applicable in real-time. Most of the scheduling algorithms are designed to be established in offline environment. However, we are challenged with three characteristics in real cases: First, problem data of jobs are not known in advance. Second, most of the shop’s parameters tend to be stochastic. Third, th...
متن کاملOptimal Scheduling of CHP-based Microgrid Under Real-Time Demand Response Program
Microgrid (MG) is considered as a feasible solution to integrate the distributed energy sources. In this paper, optimal scheduling of a grid-connected MG is investigated considering different power sources as combined heat and power (CHP) units, only power and heat generating units, and battery storage systems. Two different feasible operating regions are considered for the CHP units. In additi...
متن کاملIntegrating Pragmatic Constraints and Behaviors into Real-time Scheduling Theory
BIPASA CHATTOPADHYAY : Integrating pragmatic constraints and behaviors into real-time scheduling theory. (Under the direction of Sanjoy K. Baruah) Scheduling theory has been studied and developed extensively in prior research. In some existing scheduling theory results, the focus is primarily on demonstrating interesting theoretical properties, thus these results are not always cognizant of pra...
متن کاملA modeling methodology for real-time/multimedia operating systems
Real-time scheduling theory attempts to guarantee that a real-time task set will always meet its deadlines. Historically, there has existed a wide gap between real-time scheduling theory and the reality of applying the theory to task sets implemented via real-time operating systems (RTOSs). This paper provides a framework to account for implementation costs in real-time scheduling theory. In ad...
